Joan Templeton began volunteering at Bourkevale Community Centre in the 1960s when her son Mike was four years old. She was the club’s longest-serving volunteer, having given 48 continuous years of service to the centre in multiple roles, including as a member of the ladies’ auxiliary, the social committee and as part of the canteen’s volunteer staff.
Joan served for many years as Bourkevale’s hall rental coordinator, the position she held when she relinquished her volunteer duties in 2017.

Joan not only gave back to her community, she helped make Bourkevale what it is today: a close-knit, family-oriented group of area residents committed to building a strong, healthy and vibrant neighbourhood.
Joan passed away peacefully on September 17, 2023. She will be missed and fondly remembered for the passion and dedication she brought to the Bourkevale Community Centre.
